Painting - quick question re: paint sheen in garage

Planning to rock my garage and was looking for opinions on paint sheen. I’ve seen a lot of finished garages painted in flat; I’ve also see the rock in these same garages exhibit signs of water damage, particularly if the washer or sink is present. My thinking was to use semi-gloss to provide a good surface to repel spashes.

Ideas?

In all honesty, I wouldn't paint. The more finished the wall, the more dings will show and irritate you. Rock, mud and tape, but then leave it - the odd little ding that's inevitable in a garaged won't be a big deal.

Don't agree with me? I think you're on the right track with the semi-gloss. Just keep in mind that the higher the sheen, the more the imperfections in your wall will show through the paint.

Flat hides the imperfections of the "garage-quality" tape/mud job better
Semi- is better for clean-up/mold-mildew resistance etc.

Yep that is the downside mitch..plus the look of the unfinished wall is, I think, kind of cool.

I'd go with satin enamel. If you have the extra $ to spend having a wood wainscotting on lower portion looks great and is also better at taking abuse :p
