I installed a ceiling fan to a regular light switch in a dinning room. Since the room was not wired for ceiling fan and light switch, I added a two wire switch (one made for light switch replacement) within the bottom housing of the ceiling fan since this fan is pre-wired for a light kit and the light kit I installed did not come with its own on/off switch. the wiring was done as follows:
Blue wire from ceiling fan housing for light kit---1 black wire from added light switch --- black wire light kit.
White wire from ceiling fan housing for light kit --- other black wire from the added light switch --- white wire from light kit.
When the room light switch is turned on, both the fan and the light come on. When I try to turn the light off only by using the added light switch, it throws the breakswitch for the room. I re-wires the switch by switching the two black wires from the added switch but still the same results.
An comments on how to correct this?

You wired the new switch as a dead short. You are actually blowing the breaker when you turn ON the switch.
Connect the white from the light kit to the white from the ceiling(same place a white from fan).
Connect the blue from light kit to one of the black switch wires. Connect the other black switch wire to the black power wire from the ceiling.

Do what Joed has stated.......also I hope you installed a new ceiling box that is designed and listed to handle the ceiling fan and not just a standard nail up box.
When adding that fan you have to install the proper box rated for the installation....now many dont...but I also have seen many fall out of the ceiling because they were not done correctly.
Becareful......
