Painting - Painting popcorn

Any recommendation on how to paint ceiling popcorn without making the popcorn look painted.

Huh? You want to paint but not have it look like you did? Why do you want to paint and what specifically are you looking for as a finished result?

One thing to consider is that if your ever decide to remove the popcorn ceiling, it will be MUCH easier if it is NOT painted. That said, the link below has some very interesting postings regarding removal, painting re-texture and other methods of dealing with popcorn ceilings.

Me too :confused: What is the point of painting a ceiling if not to make it look like it has a fresh coat of paint?

Popcorn ceilings are never fun to paint. Spraying is best but usually not a viable option. If you roll with latex paint be sure not to spend much time in any one area as the moisture in the paint can soften the texture and make it turn loose from the drywall :eek: This problem can be eliminated by painting first with a solvent based primer. Use a 1"-1.5" roller cover.

Thanks for the tips and too answer the question "why". After 33 years it's not looking too well these days. Spraying it, too me, sounds much easier then rolling it. Tape off everything and go to town with a diluted white primer or diluted flat latex.

Don't dilute the paint any more than what's neccesary for your sprayer to pump it!! Getting the ceiling too moist can cause problems :eek:
