Hello,
I currently have a Brinks security system BHS 3000A ,I would Like to add some extra features to the System,, such as : exterior siren/ strobe and 2 extra glass break dectors. I would perfer to do the work myself , considering brinks quoted me a price of $500.00.

I recently reviewed the brinks manaul and it seems fairly easy to connect the wiring for the glass break detectors to the appropriate wire mounts on the control board

But the manaul is not specific to the location where I should connect the exterior siren / strobe wiring to the control board.

Would anyone be familar with the Brinks systems ?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Jake

Actually, the siren is going to be easier than the motions. The zones for the motions will have to be programmed, and that's not very easy on a Brinks. They use a pretty propriatory programming system, and are pretty guarded about the information.

For the siren, if it's a basic 12v siren, simply connect it to the same terminals as your existing siren. (The same goes for a speaker, if you are only adding one, paralleling two speakers isn't an issue)

Okay, so i would need to contact brinks for the glass break install.....

Now concerning the Siren/ strobe light... I currently have two interior speakers.. so connecting this 3rd siren / strobe light to the same Connect wont be an Issue ??

thanks for the quick reply MrRonFL ...

thanks

If you are using 12v sirens on the system already, adding a siren/strobe combo may be pushing the current draw limits of the siren output on this system. I don't know the specs for a Brinks panel, but especially with a strobe involved, you start running up the current draw pretty fast. You could wire it in directly at the panel head temporarily, and test it. The worst that will happen is that the system will either shut down on overcurrent, or pop a siren fuse.

Jake, Where are you located? Are you under Brinks Monitoring currently? I am a tech for Brinks and I can tell you that to add 2 glass breaks and an ext siren should not be $500.

If you connect an ext siren, it has to be connected to the "Bell" contact on the board. This should give you the 12vdc output you need. That is if that function is turned on with the programer. Most of the time with the 3000a and 3000c boards they are defaulted on. If you hook it to the siren output, it is behine a driver and you will not get the current you need.
If you already have a glass break you can hook them in series and they will work fine.

I am sorry the company quoted you $500.
You can get the Ext siren at ADI for a little over $15 bucks and the glass breaks are about $23 a piece.
