Hi,
I have no basement or shed storage but wondered if anyone has any tips on how to protect my painted wrought iron patio set during the snowy winter in Boston??? I thought maybe tarps but then won't it get all moldy underneath on warm or sunny days?
Maybe just leave them out "as is"???
HELP!
thanks

Just out of curiosity, how have you done it before? Did you buy it painted or painted it yourself? If so with what? I would assume (which I shouldn't) that it would be fine leaving it as is if it was bought that way. I know wrought iron itself is good quality and durable for outdoor weather.

Mold is a plant and must have food. Wrought iron does not represent anything resembling food to mold. I see no reason why a tarp would be a problem. I would also think getting them off the ground would help by keeping the feet out of the snow and ice - maybe on bricks or something similar.

There are patio furniture covers available. An online search will reveal many sources.

Hi,
I was kind of hoping just a tarp would work also...but I thought mold would "grow" due to the trapped moisture- but putting it up on palates/bricks might be a good idea...
I bought it used and this is my 1st Winter- I'm pretty sure previously it was brought in the cellar each winter and it's been painted with a satin finish rustoleum (but it's already chipping w/some rust noted)
**I also have the same question re: 2 wicker chairs (mold would "eat" that right??? so I should probably look for someone who has indoor shelter for those??) I will look online for outdoor covers but hoped to avoid further cost.

Inexpensive wicker furniture will tend to rot. (Not to say yours is "inexpensive"). You don't have a place to bring it inside for winter? ...perhaps used as extra furniture in a seating area?
