Hello.

I have an existing caddx nx4 system installed. I have purchased a ELK-70 Echo speaker (8 Ohm, 20 Watt) to add to complete the system (the system lacks a speaker). I have downloaded the manual but have been unable to get the speaker to work. I hear audible clicks from the speaker during the *4 testing. i have enabled and disabled the nx4 speaker driver without success.

Thanks to anyone with any advise.

If you have the system set with option 1 in the second segment of section 37 _off_, the built in speaker driver should be working. If you have it set for voltage (section 37-2 option 1 on), you are sending 12v to the speaker which will only click.

You can test your speaker by simply hooking it up to any audio source (it's just an 8 ohm speaker). If it works with an audio input, then either you have some setting in the programming wrong, your wiring may be wrong, or there may be a problem with the speaker driver.

The directions given above worked - thanks again.

One last question. Based on the manual it looks as though I can set the NX4 to call the monitoring company and myself (1st two attempts to the company and the next two to myself until the maximum is reached). Any attempts to adjust phone 1 (the company) or phone 2 are met with the 3 beep "no access". Is there anyway to change this?

You don't want to monkey with the programming for the primary monitoring phone numbers. It doesn't work quite the way you are thinking.

A lot depends on how your system was setup. If they only programmed the phone number in the primary slot, you can use either Phone 2 or phone 3 to program to call your phone as a "pager", but there are other settings that have to be changed to do what you are trying to do.

Their wording in the manual for doing this is a little clumsily worded, but what you are trying to do is called "multi-reporting", and you should give it a read before trying to mess with it.

It sounds like they may have turned on option 6 in section 21 to prevent tampering with the dialer settings. You may or may not be able to change this from the keypad, depending on how they did it.
