What is the right distance from the top of a couch to hang a mirror? I have read that one should hang a picture from 6 to 8 inches from the top of the couch, and I was wondering if the same applies to a mirror?

you want it close enough that it "relates" to the sofa. not so high that it's just floating above it. but the exact measurement would depend on the size of the mirror, the height of the ceiling, the orientation and/or shape of the mirror, etc....
