I have a First Alert alarm system. I want to disable the call to the security company, but still be able to use the system (just for its alarm inside the house) and continue to use my telephone. I have an FA110C, according to the panel. When I disconnect the 6 wire connector from the jack, it surely won't call out, but it also won't allow me to use the system in any way either. It says 'Not Ready'. I tried disconnecting only the 'Handset' (Brown / Gray) wires, but that disabled my phone system. Then I tried disconnecting the 'Incoming' (Green / Red) but that disabled my phone system as well.

I figure it needs something to tell it is okay to operate, but it has this safety feature in it so it can operate as intended - a monitored system. How can I continue to use the system without monitoring?

Thanks for any assistance. And let me know if I need to provide any further information.

The RJ-31x jack has a tamper switch in the plug to keep someone from just unplugging the phoneline to keep the alarm from dialing. For now, leave the wires alone, and leave the plug in place.

If you don't know the go to program code, do the following:

Disconnect both AC and Battery power
Reconnect AC power
Within 45 seconds, press * + # at the same time on the keypad

The panel should come up in program mode (20 will be showing in the display)

Enter #20: The panel will read back the installer/master code 1 digit at a time.

Next enter *41* *42* and *94*

This will erase all programmed phone numbers and make the panel local only.

Exit programming with *99.

I plugged the phone line back in, unplugged the battery. Unplugged the power. Waited about 15 seconds and plugged the power back on. Went to the keypad (in another part of the house) and simultaneously hit * + # and it caused a panic alarm - maybe I didn't get to my keypad within the necessary 45 seconds. The security monitoring folks called me (my monitoring contract expires tomorrow).

I told them my goal of making my system local. They put a tech on the line who told me they could come and program the outbound number out of the system, but that it was not really necessary, because once my monitoring contract was up, they would ignore any calls from my system.

Ideally, it would be nice to have it call my cell phone, but I guess if I can get it to essentially do nothing by doing nothing, that's okay too.

I guess we'll see what happens when I trip the alarm (purposely) after my contract is over.

It sounds like you were a little too slow. If the nearest keypad is a good distance away, the system may get a chance to boot up before you can bootstrap it into program mode.

This is an older design system, it's not really cell phone compatable as it doesn't even have a pager output function.
