I have an enclosed porch I'm re-supporting so I have the 2 exterior walls and floor joists exposed. Under the porch is just dirt. I would like to add some insulation so some hardy houseplants could live out there.
I don't want to put in any fiberglass or anything a critter might nest in between the joists.
The foam board warns it's highly flammable and need to be enclosed which I don't plan on doing.
I have bought some Reflectix Foil Insulation that attaches to the floor joists. The instructions for crawl spaces shows the insulation sheet attached to the outer edge of the joists with nothing in between. Is this enough?
If not, what would be a good insulation?
Maybe pics will help...

If it is wide open under this porch. Id put a R19 up in the joist paper to the room. Then close the joist in with panels. When it is wide open under a new room like. We treat the floor just like an outside wall.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry to sound stupid, but what is R19?
It's wide open now as I repair and level it.
I plan on closing it in. I'm not too sure how I will deal with very bottom edge at ground level to meet the wood siding I'd like to use. I will add a french drain all around.

R 13 is insulation about 3 1/2" the R 19 is 6 1/2" deep
If you put the insulation in the floor joist there id hold it up with a panel or light siding like close the bottom of it in like an outside wall. We some times just box it in down there with that open lattice work and just keep that up off the ground a bit. Let it open down there dont close it in.

I'm afraid critters will enjoy nesting in the poofy stuff. Not sure I can get it fully inclosed. Any other ideas???
Keep it open?

Not if you close the under side of the floor joist just like an outside wall. Then let it open under there. We do it a lot works better than closed in crawl space under it.
