I had two Hampton Bay Huntington III ceiling fans, Model 522680, installed by an electrician when my house was constructed. The electrician had installed separate wall switches in both the bedroom and the living room so that one switch could control the light and the other the fan. However, seeing as the fans came equipped with remotes, he put both the fan and the light on the same switch so both rooms are now controlled by the remotes.

My problem is that when I turn the light or fan on or off in one room, the remote also turns the fan or light on or off in the other room.

I am writing to see if there may be wiring plans or a diagram available to show me how I may utilize the vacant wall switches to separate the fan operation from the light operation in each of the two rooms. The living room has three switches in the wall box as one controls the kitchen lights. The bedroom just has a two switch box.

The electrician may have already done the wiring at the wall switch boxes. You can carefully look to see if each switch has a wire on both the top and bottom screw.

At the ceiling box one of the wires from the house will be capped off. The other will go to two wires comming out of the fan. This is were you need to seperate them. Leave the white wire alone. Just seperate the other two from the fan and put them on seperate wires from the house.

You may want to check to see if the remotes have a code on them. You may be able to change the code on one so that it will not turn on the other. You will have to change it both in the remote and at the fan.
