I am installing three pendant lights. The spot in the ceiling where I want to hang the pendants is not deep enough for the junction box because there is a cross brace in that spot of the ceiling. Can I put the junction box 4 or 5 inches awy form the actual point where the light will be hanging?

Another idea would be to use some sort of low-profile/shallow junction box, but I don't see that online.

Thanks,

Are you sure this is not just the strapping holding th sheetrock up? (3/4"x2") if so, you can cut it out. If not the case, they do sell a "pan" box, 1/2" deep, But you can only use 1 wire in it. Or you could "swag" the light with a chain.

ding ding ding! You win... yeap, after I poked around up there you ae right they are just straps between the joists from which the sheet rock is hanging.

Thanks a lot!!
