Hi,
The (older) home I've purchased has two rooms in which there are swag-style ceiling fans, neither of which has a light fixture. I would like to add simple light fixtures to them.
Today I bought light fixtures for them, and tried to install them. Everything looks like it should be very straightforward. When I took the escutcheon off the ceiling fan, there were two wires (white and blue) that were grouped together and had a tag on them that said "For Light Kit." The wiring instructions for the light kits I bought were very simple: connect blue to black and white to white. I did this, plugged the swag back in, and...the fan (still) works but the light does not. (I've double checked to make sure my bulb is good.)
My question is whether it is possible to add a light fixture to a swag-style ceiling fan (as opposed to hardwire) and, if so, what do I need to do to make this work.
(As an FYI, there is no attic in this Cape Cod-style house, so hardwiring would be a real bear...)
Thanks for any help!

Very basic question, so don't get offended. Is there a switch for the light? If so, did you pull that chain as well? Most likely the blue wire is not attached to the black wire in the main canopy. Just pull down the canopy and attach the blue under the same bcap as the black and replace the canopy. Your world should light up just fine.
