Hello,
I'm looking to purchase a wireless alarm system and I am considering either the Ademco Vista 20p, Dsc 832 or the Ge concord or simon 3. I have been looking online for the cheapest place to buy this system and I was wondering If anyone could recommend any reputable stores where I can purchase this. I live in Houston Texas if anyone knows of any local stores, if not any websites would be greatly apprecaited. Also, any thoughts or recommendations as far as my choosing one of these wireless systems. Thanks!

If you're going completely wireless, I would say get and Ademco Lynx panel. Minimal amount of wire connections and it's self-contained. Smaller than a panel, it's the full setup in a larger than normal keypad.

If you are pretty new to handling alarm hardware and programming, I'd recommend going with the Ademco or GE system. DSC programming, especially wireless seems to give a lot of DIY people fits. (and some pros...)

If you want simplicity, go with GE Simon. There is video of a chimpanzee programming one...
Can be completely wireless except for the transformer...Don't even need to run a phone line to the panel!

so how does it get a phone connection? is there a base unit that plugs into a phone line??

I have a 16 sensor system by SSD, the "KEEPSAFER", I got it it Lowes a few years back, not sure if they still sell it or not.

I have the main unit installed in a centrally located closet, and it has no trouble seeing the sensors 40+ feet away through all the walls. Each 'sensor' location has it's own status light, extra access panels are available but they use a sensor location.
Windows next to each other can be wired together so they only use one sensor spot.
Has battery backup, optional dialer (so no monthly fees!).
I had an 'ADT' branded wireless unit and it had trouble seeing sensors in the same room 10' away.

GE Simon (and Allegro) have a Dialogue Telephone Interface Module (DTIM) that can be used. What they have done is basically seperated the dialing mechanism from the panel and built it into a wireless module. You run a phone line to the DTIM not to the panel. Mount the DTIM anywhere it's convenient. Works great...
