Hello all,

I just replaced a light fixture that was on a dimmer and dimming perfectly well. Now that the new fixture is in, the dimmer switch does not dim the lights...it simply turns them on or off.

I checked out the packaging/manual for the new light fixture and the light bulbs and found no mention of "not compatible with dimmer switches."

Any ideas what I did wrong here?

Thanks,

Mike Hanley

What type of light did you install? Make, model, type of lamps etc.

does it take normal lamps, meaning incadescnet.

Yes, we used 100 watt soft white GE lightbulbs. I even took a bulb out of another fixture that's currently on a dimmer to see if it was the bulbs, but that one just went on/off as well...no dimming.

I have to say I am at a loss. The only thing I can think of is if the dimmer were not all the way off while you changed the light, and power were on, the dimmer could have shorted out.

I am willing to bet, that in the middle of this project somewhere, that you shorted out the triac in the dimmer.

Take out the dimmer, connect it into a different light someplace else in the house that is simply incandescent. If it only switches it on and off also, then it is shorted.

Unfortunately, there is no reset, it must be replaced
