I bought a new American Standard Heritage 12 model 2A6H2036A1000A 36,000 btu heat pump and I have a choice of an ADP "A" coil model HA54243A170A000490 (3 1/2 ton) without TXV or a American Standard cased "A" coil model 2TXB048AC3HCA 48,000 btu (4 ton) with TXV. Are either of these a good match? What about the TXV?

Unfortunately, I have neither the book or access to data on these items that I am purchasing via the Internet. I have GOOGLED everything I can think of and cannot find info. I was hoping someone with more info/knowledge than I could lend a hand. I do know that the ADP "A" coil model HA54243A170A000490 (3 1/2 ton) without TXV needs a TXV to hold a SEER of 12. I don't know how much of a problem it is to add a TXV.
The other coil has a TXV, but is rated for a higher BTU. I don't know the SEER or if the TXV would need to be changed, or if it would work at all.

sdilley,
The seller of the heat pump should be able to provide you with a copy of the product information pamphlet that will tell which coils are compatible with your unit and the resulting SEER. If they can't I would be wary of the seller.
Additionally, any unit using a TXV will be a better performing system than one with a fixed orfice. BTW, you can easliy add a TXV to any inside coil.
Good luck,
Mark

Mark and Ed- Thanks! That is what I needed!
The seller is providing full information with the unit, but this is an auction and I have to buy the unit first, so I can't cross check the seller. He recommended the 3.5 TON coil and add a TXV. I will go with that, as you seem to support his recommendation. Any recommendations on a TXV?
My summer job in college was installing AC, but that was pre-TXV. I plan to do the heavy work and have a professional finish it up.
