Troubleshooting a string of 12v garden lights, two of six were not lighting. Found an unexpected trouble. The cable feeding the 2 seemed OK as I read the 12v across the wires. However, the 12v would drop to zero when tied to the lamps. Found that the cable was essentially open for proper current flow since it ohmed out at about 3Kohms. Simply replaced that section of cable. The splice of the old cable section was not soldered and over time corrosion degraded the connection.

Soldering this type of connection is not needed. An underground splice kit would be the best fix.

Like the song: "There's nothing like a dame," likewise there is nothing like a solder joint. The point is -if I can solder at all, I will.
