New home - 2 recessed lights over sofa - where I spend a lot of time reading. It appears that there are bare bulbs in the fixtues which makes me feel I'm being interrogated - a very glaring light. I don't know anything about electricity - is something missing from the recessed light - should there be some kind of cover over the bulb that the builder left off? Ceiling is high enough that I don't know the wattage of the bulbs. Maybe a dimmer would be the answer. To sum it up I want a softer result. Sorry for my inexperience. Thanks for your help. Annie

When you sppeak of recessed lighting, I presume you are speaking of can lights.

If you can get the manufacturer and the model number, you can go online or to a store that sells that brand and look for a different trims.

Many can lights have lensed variaties of trims or different finishes that give a different feel to the lights. You can also get a lower wattage bulb in many cases and your dimmer idea would work as well, with the assimtion these are not flourescent bulbs.
