If you build a standard patio/walkway you excavate and level an area. In my case I have a part of area, where digging is not easy at all, particularly after rain. Therefore that section of the patio will be raised above the ground level. For traditional patio I install a paver base of 4'' of thickness (recommended in my region). Is it still fine to use 4'' of paver base for the raised section of the patio? Basically I do not see a difference in ground whether I dig it or do not. I just removed 1-1.5'' of it with the grass, and all bottom looks and feels the same. I know that some recommend to use 6'' of base for raised patio, but it is additional 6000 lbs for my back and hands. Unless I absolutely have to add 2'' more, then I would prefer to stay with 4'' of base. What is your opinion regarding this?

Many thanks.

Alex.
