I recently purchased one of those Brinks security lighting from Wal Mart to install in place of the front porch light on my mobile home, so we would have an automatic light for getting home late, being warned if anyone comes up, etc.
Well, I installed it correctly and after the first rain it went kaput. Even overriding the sensor and having it for the ON mode (untill daylight) it does not work. I figure one reason for this is the fact the whole fixture cost about 20 bucks. from Walmart.
My next question is, what is a good fixture to get (we have Home Depot nearby) for this spot? It would be for general lighting in the front yard, small lot. I can't spend a fortune on it, as my budget is pretty limited.
Any help would be greatly apreciated. THanks!

Welcome to the forums! YOu will find we ask as many questions of you as you do of us, so bear with us, OK? When you installed the light did you install it on a weather tite box and did you install the gasket provided to prevent water from infiltrating the box? Second, did it trip a breaker? The $20 light should be OK for your purposes. It isn't the cost, it is the quality. Post back and we will see what happens.

Additionaly, these lights can only handle so much wattage. Make sure the lamps/bulbs you use do not exceed this limit, the fixtures are internaly fused and you can not repair them.

I installed everything that it came with, on an existing box on the side of the mobile home. I simply took off the factory lamp and put this one in it's place. I also sealed it with some caulk
I used the correct lights it said to use.
It couldn't have fliped a braker, because power still goes to it. On the sensor, the little red light will be on when the switch is on.
I did notice too that there is moisture on the inside of the sensor window thingy, which i thought may be covering the sensor, but then the override would still work, which it doesnt.

I would say that you did nothing wrong, and that you just got a bad apple from the barrel, so to speak.
Take it back for a replacement, and see how it does.
comments of a political nature such as how nafta shipped the quality out of the country along with the jobs, are not allowed in this forum.

Would Walmart take it back? I don't have the box anymore.

Alot of times when you are installing the light to the box, the wire splices will come off. Double check your wiring. If there were a short, it should have tripped a braker.

You can try, if you were the retailer would you?
It's hard to re-deliver a product without the package.
Do you have the receipt? IMHO, you have the faulty product, who needs a box for it?

Walmarts usually have a very liberal return policy. Just tell them that you tossed the box and receipt (unless you can find them), and that you want to exchange the light for one that works.

I dont think it could be my wiring though, as power is still going to the unit (like I said before) the light on the sensor comes on.
I'll have to try taking it back to WalMart tomarrow after work. I keep most reciepts, so I should be able to find it.
