I've drilled holes in the bottom of two ceramic vases (they were the perfect color size for lamps, and cheap enough that I thought I'd try to make lamps and if I screwed up no great loss) and purchased a lighting kit. Unfortunately, the plastic stoppers are made for bottles, not vases with wider mouths. I thought I could use a cork, and anchor the plastic (it's threaded for the metal tube--so I need the stopper thing too) but I can't find cork stoppers big enough. So, my two ideas are a) hollowed out florist foam w/ the plastic dohicky stopper anchored inside, or b) that sprayable exapanding stuff (of course, that would probably fill up the entire vase before getting to the top. Any other suggestions/ideas? Or, is there somewhere or a website that sells parts? I know that a local antique store does beautiful lamps from vases, so I assume there must be a supplier somewhere but I've been unable to find it on the web. Thanks!

Not sure where you live in Atlanta, but go to one of the wine shops (there's one near Lenox Square) and get a rubber carboy stopper with a hole in it. Take your vase with you so you can get the right one. I think a #10 may work, but check anyway. They may even have cork ones which may work just as well.

Larry, you are a genius. My husband is a home brewer, we have a bucket of carboid stoppers! Golden! Thanks!

I just happened to be looking through my wine stuff (to replenish), just prior to seeing your post, so rather than thinking technical like I usually do, I just fell into it. Glad to help.
