I replaced a fan only on a speed control dial with a fan and light combo. The fan and light combo includes a remote. I would like to replace the speed control dial with a regular toggle switch so I can use the remote to control the fan and light.
When I look inside the box for the switch, I have 3 sets of wires. Each of the three sets include 1 black, 1 white, and a ground. 2 sets come in from the top left and the other one from the top right. This confuses me. I have seen examples in one of my books for one wire and 2 wires, but not 3.
Any help to get this switch installed would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Which wires were attached to the fan only switch? These would be attached to the spst switch to allow it to be either "on" or "off". Please don't tell me all the wires were separated without at least a digital pix of the original wiring to the switch.

Two black wires were attached together with a pig tail coming out. That pig tail and the other black wire were attached to the speed control dimmer. The white ones were attached together and had a cap on the end. They did not connect to the switch.
If I only use the black wires to hook up the toggle switch, the fan only operates in high speed. I can control the light with the remote, but not the fan speed.
Thanks

The switch wiring is correct for the regular spst switch, so you are good there. I would check the wiring in the canopy to make sure all the wires are snugly in the bcaps and connected in the proper order. Most of the time the instructions will tell you to put the fan in the high mode so the controller has the ability to control it through all speeds. Also check the dip switch setting on the remote in the canopy versus the remote hand held unit to make sure they are the same.
