Yesterday I replaced the cartridge in the bathroom sink and the tub. The sink was hard to turn on and off and the tub had a slow drip, both are single handle types. The sink is working great now and I thought the tub had finally quit dripping...wrong! At first it wasn't, and then I cleaned the tub and took the hand held shower down to rinse the tub out, after that I then had another slow drip out of the tub faucet. GRRRR! So I have tried reading a few threads and was wondering if I should of greased the cartridge with silicone before I put it back in? Also another thing that drives me nuts is when you turn the shower on the water is coming out of both the shower AND the faucet, this doesn't seem normal to me, is it? And if it is anyway to make it so that the water comes out of either the shower or faucet and not both? Thanks for the help.

It may not be the cartridge's fault. Where do you divert to the shower? At the spout or on the control valve. If on the spout, and all the water is still in the shower pipe, it will trickle down until it is MT. Normally once pressure from the shower is released, the diverter pops back to its original position, but sometimes they stick. It may be as simple as replacing the spout with diverter.

Thanks Larry, so glad you told me that, I will keep that in mind. I went and got another cartridge and replaced it and it seems to have stopped dripping. We never use that shower, only for company, so I am NOT going to turn it on! If it should start dripping again the next time it is used I will replace the spout!!! I am sooo tired of dealing with it for the time being! Will it be a pain to replace the spout??? Do I need to turn off the water for that?
Thanks again

No, changing the spout is alot easier than what you just went through with the cartridge. There are a few types of spouts. One will screw directly onto a stubbed nipple (simple). Another one will have a set screw underneath that must be released, and the spout will slide off. Be sure to figure this out and buy the same kind, as they will only replace their own kind without modification.
