I just purchased a new home and have close to 1000 sq ft of old deck and railing that looks like this is the first TLC that it has received.

Question: Which products are recommended, ie Behr, Olympia, Cabots, etc?

thx

Cabot and Sikkens are the products I see recommended the most. Remember, you get what you pay for - skimp on the stain and you'll be reapplying more often.

Also the heavier the coating the longer it will normally last. A clear sealer won't protect as long as a transparent stain which doesn't last as long as a solid stain.

I would recomend a transparent stain. Stay away from big box products as they are usually based on lowest price and not quality.
