Sorry if this is a re-post, I thought I had posted, but when I search for posts under my user name I don't see them. This setup of Vbullitin seems very different from others I have used.

Anyway, I am createing a Patio/Deck cover where I want to attach the ledger on top of the house roof. The Sunset book, had a diagram of a nice metal saddle that you could lag bolt through the shingles into the rafter tails. The saddle would then hold your 4x4/6 matreial which you could attach the patio cover "rafters".

I have looked into the Simpson catalog and cant find anything. Does anyone out there know where I could find these? I don't want to bolt down pieces of 2x material and then attach the 4x material on top of that.

Thanks in advance

Jack

I've seen some pretty intriguing things in a Sunset (or Ortho, or similar) book, and they all have the same problem -- they aren't code approved. (If you find it in the Simpson catalog, it's approved!!)

What I have used to roof mount patio covers (and this has been OK'd by engineers for the covers that I install) is an "L" bracket that is 1/8" thick, 1" wide, and has 8" or 10" legs. You lag the "L" into the rafter, and then bend it plumb (or to the slope that you need) and attach your ledger to it with through bolts or lags.

Lefty - thanks for the reply, I saw some hardware the solar guys use, and was thinking about adapting that. I guess that is the route to go!
