There are several posts to which the following instructions will prove helpful.

To open the cases of the Sears Kenmore 58054501 and 58054701 dehumidifiers:

i) Unplug the unit, remove and empty the bucket and/or disconnect the drainage pipe/hose. Be ready for a little bit of water from the condensation pan in the unit.

Remove Back Panel

ii) Unsnap the power cord from the bottom of the back panel if it is snapped into the cord holder.

iii) Remove the (6) "putty" screws from the back of the back panel.

iv) There are 2 snap tabs on each side of the back panel (1-1/2" from top and bottom on each side). Use a thin blade putty knife to pry the plastic back panel out at these points. Once unsnapped lift up and off from the top. There are 2 drop in tabs at the top.

Remove the Top Front Panel

v) Remove the two black screws at the bottom of the top front panel.

vi) There are two snap tabs in the middle of each side of the top front panel. Use a thin blade putty knife to pry the plastic top front panel out at these points. Once unsnapped lift up and off from the top. There are 2 drop in tabs at the top. Be careful of the control panel cord (if you remove the tape to stand the panel up, be sure to tape the cord back into place when reassembling).

Remove the Metal Top/Side Case

vii) Remove the 4 "putty" screws at the bottom of each case side.

viii) At the top section of the front of the unit are two "silver" screws at the top and two black screws at the center of the sides - remove these screws.

ix) Remove the one "silver" screw at the top of the back of the unit that screws through the top/side case flange into the metal connection box (top right facing the rear of the unit).

x) The metal top/side case cover will lift off.

Reassembly

xi) Reverse the above to reassemble. Be careful to hand tighten only all screws, especially the black ones as they go into plastic.

Note

xii) If you are using the hose adapter, it can be secured into place with an 8" nylon cable tie placed around the hose adapter (once in place), and the bottom cord wrap post.

Good Luck to you all.

I've had several coils and expansion valves replaced (no charge under the 5 year warranty on sealed refrigeration parts - but I did have to take the unit into the Sears repair depot 30 miles away). This last time, the unit was making a racket from vibration, and so I opened the case, braced/shimmed/padded a few things and reassembled (quieter now).
