Hi Annette- I read your sticky and it's very helpful. We already have living room furniture which is hunter green solid. Is there a place (website) I can go to that will show me which wall colors will look the best with my furniture? I'm worried I'm not going to pick the right color....... (Or should I select a carpet first?)

hi.......as i said in my Sticky, pick darn near EVERYTHING before choosing your specific wall color. you can have a general idea of what color you want the walls to be, like "neutral beige/off white/cream" or "some sort of gold", etc, but purchase the "things" first, then get the paint. paint is available in literally EVERY COLOR IN THE RAINBOW - and all for the SAME PRICE! carpet is not. rugs are not. nothing else is. just PAINT. so yes, definitely get your carpet first. then, with the carpet (or a large sample) in the room, in the right light, with some other multicolored accessories around, pick the exact paint color(s) you want.

also, there is no one "best" or "right" color to go with your furniture. again, as said in the Sticky, you need to create a color SCHEME. find something that's multicolored from which you can pull colors for other things like paint, draperies, rugs, pillows. based on nothing else but "solid hunter green furniture", i'm thinking cream or beige for the walls (= boring!). but throw in one single floral pillow with greens, deep reds, & golds, and now i'm thinking a rich gold for the walls, a nice green, red & beige plaid curtain and a deep red area rug. then maybe use the deep red for the adjoining dining room with red & cream toile curtains with gold accents, and then use the green for the kitchen with a gold, green & red fruit pattern for the kitchen curtains. see how it works?

don't plan the room around just the green. don't ask for a paint color just to go with green. somehow, somewhere, get a color scheme & then go from there.

be sure to also consider things like your woodwork & cabinetry color, your wood furniture pieces, maybe the brick/stone/tile around your fireplace, any floor tile, etc. things you can't really change. use colors that accentuate these things.
