I have a double french door which is very difficult to open since my contractor did not know how to hang a door properly. The reveal is in bad shape and I just painted the door and now it take a lot of force to open and close the door. I am afraid of splitting the wood door when I open it know.

I would like some advise, I think I need to either remove the trim and completely rehang the door or should I sand the edges down until it opens and closes properly. My doors look great after painting and I am afraid if I do the wrong thing I will ruin my door. I little help PLEASE........

Maybe you could take a digital picture of the door and its reveals. Or at least describe where the reveals are bad. And where do the doors drag?

I'm guessing these are interior french doors that both operate?

He is someone I do not ever want to see again. Poor workmanship if you know what I mean. I think I can do a better job because I am very particular in my work. I want to know what is the best way to fix this problem. Thanks....

I will take a digital photo this weekend and post it for all to see. Currently the reveal where the two doors meet in the middle have no reveal at all and the right upper reveal is very narrow and the left upper taper to the middle. It looks very lopsided.

It sounds to me like the fix is a very simple one, and does not require you to remove any casing. When french doors hit in the middle, it is likely because the weight of the door is bowing the jamb slightly at the top hinges.

The first thing I would try is to remove one of the short screws from the top hinge (from the jamb, not the door). Remove one of the screws that is closest to the door stop moulding. Then, in its place, insert a 2 to 3" screw in its place. When you tighten that screw, it will actually raise the door up in the middle, which will also widen the gap between your doors.

Trying this adjustment would take about 2 minutes. So it's worth a shot. When I install any type of door, I always install these screws to begin with. It ensures that the doors will not move (as much) after you leave the jobsite.

It may be one door, or a little of both. When you look across the top of each door, the reveals should be straight across the top. If one door is higher than the other, you may have tightened that screw too much! (or your carpenter got the doors out of square.)

Thank you for the insight. I will try your suggestion tonight and see what happens. I will reply after I try it out...Thanks
