I need to build a small (approx. 3' x 3') deck off the entrance to our house. We moved the entrance to our home (along with putting a new foundation underneath), and now the door is approx. 3' above grade.
Next year we will hopefully be doing new concrete/landscaping/etc., so I am looking for a temporary solution. I think I can build something w/o any problems, but am trying to figure out how to set the posts. We backfilled with sand, so I need something to prevent them from sinking, but don't want anything permanent until next year.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

If you are sure they are going to be temporary, you could build a platform and steps out of PT 2x material. Set the supports on 4x8x16 solid concrete block.
If you do not attach it to the house and you have a sand backfill, you can easily tolerate the small amount of settlement.
Sand will settle and compact very quickly with a the aid of a little moisture. If you have other soil types (clay, ect.) it will take more time and effort ti minimize the settling.frost heaving.
