Does anyone know if you can get a recoil starter for a
vertical shaft 9HP kawasaki engine-mine has electric
start but would sure like a back up pull starter thanks

Yes, there was a recoil start option for that engine. You'll need the recoil starter shroud and cup for the flywheel. You local JD dealer should be able to help you find it. I believe you might find the option on the engine for a GX75? Maybe it was SX75? Can't remember for sure, but it seems like one or both of those had recoil 9hp kawasakis.
