Hello again all. I previously posted about my unit being dead and since i'm not sure yet how to use this forum I will start again.I have a Trane model # YCCO36F1HOBC outside unit that has stopped working.I am not a electricion but I have always done all of my own electrical repair with advice from friends. I have a multi tester and know how to use it. So far I have found out that my transformer was bad so I replaced it but this time with a 5 amp fuse with the advice of the tech where I bought it. He told me they rarely go bad unless something else shorts and feeds back thru it. Sure enough, when everything was wired back up I set the thermostat to cool and the fuse blew.So now where do I go from here? At least now I know the problem is in the cooling side of the unit.Where next? How many more possibles are there? According to the sequence of events of the cooling side,w/ the thmst.calling for cool the comp. contactor and the G-IGN are energized. At this point the fuse blows.IS it possible that little coil that pulls in the contacts is the culprit? Can it be tested? One more thing, When the fuse blew I did a click sound comfrom the circuit board. Thanks for any help. Greg.

Id try and pull the low 24V wires off the contactor first then turn it all on and call for AC. See If the fuse blows . Next Pull Y wire off the tstat then call for AC . Then the G wire And so on till you find the short on the low side.

Okay thank you Ed. I will do so as soon as it's light outside. I'll be back with results. Greg.

Thanks Ed. That was it. That coil on the contactor was shorted. It's up and running fine. Who said you can't stop a Trane anyway? That's the third time in 14 years that it's stopped. That's not bad (is it?). Once again thank you. Greg.
