I just had a walk through with my builder of my house. He said he usually does not caulk windows on the outside because the house will settle and break the seal. He recommends waiting a year and then caulking them myself.
Should I take his advice and wait or is he just trying to save some time/money. Won't this hurt my energy costs and possibly let water in? Thanks in advance for your advice.

What type of house is it?
As a painter I have always been required by the builder to caulk the window trim on wood sided homes [prior to paint] and the window to the brick on the brick homes [takes a little skill to get a neat job]

That might have been true 40 years ago when the caulkings dried hard. Todays caulking remains flexible and will move as the house settles.
