I have an older but little used wood stove in my detached garage, which is used as a workshop. The garage, not the woodstove. Anyway, I want to use that wood stove for some heat this coming winter. Is installation a DIY thing, or is this something best left for a professional?
I am a well-versed DIYer, just not in this type of thing.

A lot depends on the existing area. Will the stove set on masonary? Is there a chimney in place with a thimble to hook the stove pipe to?

Sometimes you are allowed to use only stove pipe but again where it goes thru the structure the surronding area needs to be insulated [with metal or masonary] from the flue.

There are probably restrictions in your area as to how close to a wall it can sit, and what type of materiels must be used.

Your local Fire Marshall will probably have all the information you need to do it safely and according to code. (and often for free)
