I replaced 2 double hung windows in my house with 2 new Pella 450 double hung windows. The old ones were single pane with storm windows. There was about a 2 inch gap between the window & storm window. The new ones are low e, aluminum clad wood, wood interior. Old & new windows are about the same size. All trim work is done.
I immediately noticed alot more noise coming thru the new windows. Especially the higher pitch sounds such as traffic noise. I still have some of the older windows which are on the same side of the house as the new windows. There is a noticable difference. I certainly wasn't expecting to have MORE noise. And they're in a bedroom. I'm afraid I'll have to replace them. But with what? What can I do? Now, I'm afraid to do any more remodeling. Is this common with aluminum clad windows? Would adding outside storm windows help? Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Wish I had my old windows back.
