I'ved gutted my bathroom and installed a new subfloor, otherwise the room is a shell. The plumber is coming tomorrow to replace the cast iron waste pipe in the basement and I need to cut a hole in the new floor to show where the new toilet will go so the plumber can run pipe to it. What is the recommended distance from the side and back walls to the center of the hole? I haven't bought the toilet yet so I don't have any directions to read and am hoping one of the experts on this forum will be able to help. Thanks in advance.

You need to at least pick out the toilet that you will be purchasing. Get the installation instructions out and have a look. There are about three different standards.

Most toilets are 12" rough-in. That means 12" from the finished wall to center. Most codes I know of require at least 15" from the center of the hole to any wall or cabinet. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project.
