I am planning on building an awning at a house I rent to give a shady area and keep the sun out of my room with a sliding glass door. I have to do some more measurements but I'm planning on making it 8'x8', 2 pieces of plywood with a boarder made from 2x4s, unless there's a better way. I don't want to attach it to the house because I don't want to deal with damage costs when I move out.

I'm thinking of making 4 blocks of cement in molds with bolts placed in them while wet then putting, I don't know what they are called, U shaped metal pieces that you can bolt down and bolt to a piece of wood. I'm sure they have an official name. Anyways, bolt those to the cement blocks after burrying the blocks, then bolting 4x4s to the metal pieces and those being the supports for the awning.

Any thoughts or plans someone else has for a similar awning? Thank you for your time.
