My a/c has been giving me problems since the past one month. I have two zones and the problem is with the upper zone only. Called a technician who added a hard-start kit and the a/c worked fine for a week. After a week, there were intermittent problems with the outdoor unit. It doesn't turn on (compressor or the fan) while the indoor unit is on. I don't hear any noise from the outside unit and neither the thin copper wire is hot. It looks like it is not receiving any signals from t-stat (that's my guess). However, If I turn off the unit for an hour or so and then turn it back on, it works fine for a day (sometimes two) and then the same problem surfaces (outdoor unit doesn't come on). So far, I have replaced t-stat batteries and insulated some outdoor wires (some were exposed a bit). Before I call the technician again, I was hoping someone could share their expertise in this area so that at least I know what's going on.

I dont think the tstat or zone have anything to do with it. If it was the tstat or the zone why the heck did he put a hard start kit on it

Its all out side Id say compressor sounds that when it dont start it goes on and off on the klixon.
