We bought a house with an old concrete patio (too large to destroy). Some of the joints, especially next to the house (all brick) have become quite large. There are even small trees and bushes growing in some places. Question: How do I clean up these joints and then seal them to prevent plant growth and moisture damage?

You could get a fiber concrete saw blade for your skil saw, and use it to saw all the crap out of the joints. Or use a 4" angle grinder with the same type of blade. Then, give the joints a healthy dose of Roundup herbicide to kill all the roots. After the plant material is gone and the joints are cleaned out, use caulk in the joints to keep moisture, dirt, and seeds from getting back in.
