Hi,
Whenever I switched on the A/C, both the units are running (one in the attic and one outside the house) but there is no air circulation. I thought the filter is old (3 months old - I use 3M 16X25X1 1250 ratings). So I replaced the filter and still the same issue.

Any help on this issue is really appreciated.

thanks

Ok is the fan wheel turning in the attic? is there any ice or frost on the coil up there?? When running is the big copper line cold and wet the small copper line warm to hot as they go into the outdoor condenser unit. If not you can be low on freon also.

I hear the sound and it sounds like something is running. Is it easy to open and see the coil for any ice or frost?

Thanks for the reply.
which unit I should check for the coil. The one in attic or the one outside the house.

There used to be a lot of water flowing close to the unit outside. Now there is no water at all near that unit even though the unit is running for almost 8 hours.

I also kept the napkin close to vent inside the house where air flows and some vent sucks in the napkin and some vents blows out the napkin. I don't know why the difference. I thought every vent inside house should blow the air out not sucks in.

thanks again for your help.

I checked the unit in the attic. I did not see any coil out there.
Here is photo of the unit in the attic.

Coil sits in box on top of furnace and has copper refrigerant lines and pvc drain connected to it.

I will check the coil when I go home tonight.

Most of the similar issues in the forum points it to low on freon.

If this is true, how do I know My A/C unit is freon based?

If it is freon based how much will it cost to add?

I did not do any annual A/C maintenance since I bought the house. Dec 2004. The house was built in 1999. I don't know what kind of maintenance that the previous owner did?

Is annual maintenance required? How much is it usually cost for maintenance ?

Why I am asking the cost is I don't want any maintence guy cheat me. My brother-i-law was asked to pay $1500 for just fixing some garbage disposal in the kitchen sink for 1/2 hr work. After questioning his work he agreed to accept $600. I don't want to be cheated like that.

I just want to know the ballpark for

annual maintenance cost =$
service call =$
adding freon = $

Advance thanks for your help.

Since I did not have any service for last 18 months I have decided to call the professional to do some checking.

I called 3 companies and they are all quoting different price.

Company 1: Diagnostic $65 for 2 units and $19 /lb of freon
Company 2: Diagnostic $120 for 2 units and $50 / first lb of freon and $28/lb after that
Company 3: Diagnostic $110 for 2 units and $80 - $150 /lb of freon

Please help me to identify which company is reasonable.

thanks for your help.
