Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Wisconsin? go cart motor

i have found a project for me and the boys to work on.. Dont know what kind of motor it really is.. If anyone can help identify the motor so i can start looking for some literature on that model.... Or if its not that great of motor i can start looking for a replacement. Looks like it has a start button on it.. but i didnt see a starter.. I havnt had a chance to really look it over real good.. Yep looks like Wisconsin/Robin...
I've not seen many in my area, couple on some old Snappers bout all but parts are still available at least around the internet.
A google search yeilded a couple places advertising parts and service with pics of books too...?
If it runs it is probably worth keeping it running.
There is a whole nother world of small engines just for go-cart application, replacements should be easy enough to find also.

Well i got to take a look at it today.. i am gonna replace tank as it is completely rusted inside.. Am i missing a part on the outside of engine for a pull cord, or does it just attach to the piece shown in the picture link below ?

You may need to sink a good deal of cash into this engine to get it running well. With the gas tank rusted heavily, you need to be concerned about the condition of the carburetor and combustion chamber. Most likely they should be addressed and this along with the missing rewind starter, you can expect to shell out some hard earned loot. Find your local Wisconsin/Robin dealer in your area and get some prices on this stuff.

thanks for info, i am waiting on couple replys from Wisconsin Robin part department.... but is there any problem with me trearing the motor down and cleaning.. should i just pull the carb and soak in a solution?

Looks to me like that is where you wrap a pull cord. Knot in the end of a cord goes in the notch.

sounds good, i was thinking it need some type of recoil spring of such.. I sure hope thats it.. cause i might be in business...

Radiator shop just said they will clean tank and coat the inside for 15 bucks.. sounds reasonable to me and then i dont have to find that part...

looks like a rope wind pull start. The ones I've had usually had a little deeper notch, but that looks like them. The button could be a kill switch. That looks like a great project!

Ok, I have got it running.. Of course it only runs if i am squirting gas in the carb.... could it just be the needle and float.. I cleaned it all up good.. do they just go bad somehow.??

If your getting fuel to the bowl then its not the needle or float keeping it from running. The carb is most likely going to need cleaning.
If your not getting fuel to the bowl then the Tank outlet, fuel line and needle and seat should be checked.
If the fuel tank was in bad shape you can expect that at least some of that made it to the carb and should be cleaned by soaking in carb cleaner.

thanks,, I get fuel to the bowl.. just cant get it from there.. I can take a little bottle of fuel and shoot in the carb and keep the engine running but thats the only way .. can i just take the bowl off and just soak the carb like that or should i take it apart further..... I can take the carb cleaner and shoot through all the holes pretty good..... i did unscrew the mixture needle all the way out and then screwed it all the way in and then backed it off a couple turns.....

The best way to ensure you are cleaning the carburetor as best can, you need to remove it, soak it in a good cleaning solution (I like Napa's #6402) and recondition it with a genuine Robin rebuild kit and also the necessary mounting gaskets.
