I have an old Goodman furnace, that died the other night. Well, I bought a new Ruud and it was installed on Thursday.
The A/C was off for a good 16 hours. The coils and condenser (2.5 ton) are 14 years old. Now, its having trouble getting below 82 during the day. Granted Im in Texas and it has been 104 degrees. The air exchange is about 18 degrees, so it isnt that bad. Today the outside temp was 96ish, and it got down to 78-79.
Any ideas why its taking time to cool. Does it need a few days to get really going again? Also, it seems to tun a lot longer now then before. Is that ok?
Thanks

Once it draws all the high humidity out of the house it should do much better. Give it a couple of days. After that....

So it can take a few days to go back to normal?
What if it doesnt? Is it ok for it to run for hours on end?

Long run times are good. Is the new airhandler you bought the same size as the old one? Did they set the blower on high for the a/c ? Did they install a different type of filter than you used to use ?

Same size from the looks of it. The old one was an old (maybe real old) Goodman, not sure of the size.
I'm not sure if they set the blower on high for the A/c. Is that easy to check?
Same filter size, we had just changed the filter before the work was done. That part was left.
The furnace is either a Rudd 80PJ or 80LJ series.

The new furnace should tell you what blower you have there .On the name plate. On the door to the blower should be a wire schermatic check that out and see if you have high speed on the bloweror not.

OK, I checked the serial number and all the diagrams on the inside door. Will it say something about having a high setting on the blower? I also have all the instructions, and warranty document sin front of me.
From what I can tell, I think the blower has 4 speeds (Blower Performance Data), Low, Med-Lo, Med-Hi, Hi.

Check and see if that HI wire is tied to the AC blower relay.

From the schematics, and me checking, it looks like it is.
WE are at 95 degrees now outside, and I have the t-stat at 79. It seems to kick on for a good 20-30 minutes and gets it back to 79. Possibly needed a few days to really crank up and get the humidity out?

The lower the humidity gets in the home .The cooler you will feel at 78o or 79o.

I'd probably run it at 70 until you start to feel cold, then back up to what you are used to.

Like today, it got up to 100-101. I had it at 79.
It started to run constantly at noon, and will probably go off/on again around 9pm (pretty much anytime it gets over 95, it seems to be kicking in all the time.). It cant get below 80 in this weather. Granted half the house is vaulted ceiling with no insulation, so Im thinking that could be the main issue. But the old one never had that issue.
Im just wondering if its ok to run it constant for that long?
