I have a Payne heat pump, it stopped cooling after a thunderstorm and there is a strange hum when the compressor comes on. The reversing valve solenoid is HOT after only a few minutes operation and this sounds like the source of the hum.
I'm guessing the solenoid is bad and not switching the reversing valve or the valve is stuck. Can the solenoid be removed and the valve operation checked without discharging the freon from the unit?
Thanks

Yes some can change the coil on it. Not sure if yours can or cant.
In fact a new valve dont come with a coil. You have to get the one you need for the power in the unit. Most 4 ways should fail in heat mode. You can try the unit on heat for a short run and see if it works ok. Make sure you get all the ## off the coil or take it with you.
