I have a craftsman riding lawn mower with a 10 hp tecumseh electric start engine. The last time I started it a lot of white smoke blew out of the muffler. Any suggetions on the possible problems? Thanks.

White smoke would be oil burning. Is the oil overfull, did you park it in such a place that oil could seep by the rings and into the cylinder. Does the white smoke clear up after a few minutes, if it does it could be worn valve guides. If it continues after running awhile to be worn or busted rings. Have a nice day. Geo

Pull out your dipstick and have a wiff. I'l bet it smell like gasoline. This indicates that the carburetor isn't stopping the fuel flow properly and it is either a defective inlet needle or a float with a hole in it. If you have gas in your oil, DO NOT run the engine until this is fixed. You can do alot of harm to the internals of the engine.
