Maybe someone could help me out..
I just bought a new 2nd floor apartment - (it's a 2 story apt brick complex) -There is an attic above me..
The square footage of the unit is about 950 square feet.
Right now, I have an old (1988) Airtemp (fedders) 24,000 btu unit in the dining room (which is connected to my kitchen.) This unit states inside that it's 13.8 amps and 2850 watts
I'm looking to cool my living room, dining room and kitchen.. This comprises of about 525sq Feet. The current (old) unit blows cold air but only in a very limited direction..
I've bought two 6000 btu units for the 2 bedrooms that i have - those should cool that area quite well..
The issue is do I update this old 1988 airtemp that has (HI, and LOW) with no automatic on/off etc features..
The unit is in the wall and I've looked at a few local appliances stores and they are pushing these two fridgaire units.. One is a 18500 btu unit that is 7.4 cooling amps and 10.7 EER and a 22000 btu unit that is 10.2 cooling amps and 9.4 EER..
My question is this, for the amount of area im trying to cool (about 525 sq feet, being that it's a 2nd floor unit, with an attic above me, a kitchen in the square footage im trying to cool, a 2nd story unit, and somewhat sunny, what unit should I get, if any????
The 18500 btu unit seems a lot more energy efficient than the 22000... Or do i need the 22000 unit? I don't wnat to make the mistake and get the wrong sized unit.
I'm kinda stuck here.. If anyone could assist, i'd appreciate it..

If this is a through the wall unit make sure you either get another through the wall unit to slide into the cabinet or if you are going to try and slide a window unit into the through the wall cabinet you must make sure none of the vents are blocked on the sides, top, or rear.
Do you not have a window in the living room where you could use a smaller window unit to suppliment the dining room unit ? That 2 ton unit you have should be plenty an 18,000 should be just right.
