First off, I'd like to thank all who regularly contribute to this forum. I had a York Central A/C unit that stopped several weeks ago (fan would run if blades pushed with a stick) and based on what I found here, I replaced the run capacitor and it works great now. :)
Here's my current problem. I have a York heat pump at my rental unit and the A/C stopped working. The fan was running, but the compressor wouldn't start. Every couple of minutes the compressor would try to kick on and then shut off immediately. I've replaced the run capacitor and installed a Smart Boost hard start kit. The compressor still tries to kick on and shuts off right away, but I now notice that my em/aux heat light is flashing on my thermostat. The unit is about 6 years old. I put the small Smart Boost (500% torque increase) hard start kit on it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Id say call A HVAC tech here.Id put a annie test analyzer on it and see if 300Mfd can kick it over. With it you can also rock the unit see if something is wrong inside it. they can put gauges on the AC and see what the freon is doing. The TXV or orifice clean and ok
The compressor still tries to kick on and shuts off right away,
Thats going on and off on the Klixon
Do you know what the Amp draw is???

Thanks for the reply.
Not sure what the AMP draw is, I'll have to get over there and check it.
Don't know about anything loose inside, but the entire unit seems to move alot when the compressor tries to start.
Does it make a difference if my run cap says 370vac and the hard start kit I bought says something like 150-288vac? I don't remember the exact numbers, but I do remember noticing that the upper vac number was less than what was on my run cap.

I still say get a tech to put gauges on it.is it the compressor or a lock up on the freon ????
I dont like the small start kits. Yes they help some . But if we have to put one on it will be with a big old start capacitor and a potential starting relay.

I agree with Ed. Those small start assists aren't going to do much good on a locked compressor.
I started a locked compressor a couple years ago with a start kit and a good kick with my foot. Surprisingly it is still running.
