I just had a new Weatherking 10SEER unit installed, replacing a Ruud unit that only lasted 10 years. The question is, is it normal
to see condensation on top of the compressor and in the bottom pan? The unit seems to be working and cooling just fine.
I never noticed this happening on the Ruud unit. Thanks in advance for any info.

Most compressors will have a small spot of condensation or sweat On them where the suction line come into it is all. Did you put a new coil in also with the new condenser???

It would depend on how much water. If the whole compressor is wet that isn't good. If just where the suction line enters then that would be normal.

I figured the water at the suction line was normal. My concern is that there is water on top the compressor which on this unit is directly under the fan. I would think that the fans updraft would dry any condensation that might collect on top the compressor. I'm concerned this could be a precurser to a freeze up. BTW it's a 3 ton unit. I guess I'm just gun shy because I got such a short life span out of the Ruud with it's Scroll compressor that was supposed to be so great...but was what failed.

Thanks guys...

Oh ya. Used the origional A Coil (Ruud), but installer installed orifice that came with the WeatherKing.

The excessive sweat could be due to your house being extremely warm and humid with the old a/c out. If it continues for a couple more days, check for attic air entering your return. If nothing is found give your a/c guy a holler and see what he has to say. An overcharge could also produce water on the compressor. Your symptom isn't usually a precurser to freezing.

Sorry you had a bad experience with the scroll. IMHO it is the best thing to come onto the hvac scene since I entered the field over 30 years ago.

Then can be coil set up is wrong .The freon not burning off like it should at the coil and getting back to the compressor. I take it that the old coil is clean the blower wheel clean. All so it can move lots of air over the coil.
