Hey guys, how have you been? Evidently, it's been a while since I was last on here, because my username got zonked.
Anyway, I'm back with yet another AC question.
In my house, I have a 20-something year old Central AC unit. I've had some problems with it over the past few years, both with the condensing pan overflowing (the first time was a crack, the second was hornets), but I have a different problem this time. The air coming out of the vents is not cool.
Initially, I thought it might be out of freon (which it still might be), but another interesting thing to note is that this coincides with a loud buzz (sounds like a brownout) every 6.5 minutes, that sounds like is from the Fuse box.
Could it possibly be a circuit breaker? Or is there something loading it down to make that noise? The breaker doesn't trip, and I have tried resetting all of them, with the same exact results.
Any thoughts?
I have an HVAC guy coming tomorrow to take a look. I know that is not very DIY of me, but this heat is killing me.
Post any ideas you may have. Home Depot is open by me for another few hours. ;)
Thanks - Dunney

Could the loud buzz be coming from the compressor? If so, it could possibly be the compressor attempting to start and is kicking out on overload. Could be a capacitor or stuck compressor if that is the case.
I wouldn't leave it on if you suspect the compressor. Could kill it waiting for the tech.

I don't think it is the compressor that is emitting the noise. It seems to come from right around the fuse box, and there really isn't anything else near it.
I'm not sure what each unit is called, but outside the house, under the back stairs, there is an enormous fan inside a big metal box. In the attic, there is a giant metal conduit, from which all the ducts go to the different rooms of my house. Which one is referred to as the compressor? How the heck do these things work anyway?

The metal box with the big fan outside is your condensing unit. Your compressor is inside the box.
I still think it might be the compressor trying to kick on and may be causing your breaker to buzz but not trip. I would turn it off until it is checked. It may be fixable with a capacitor or start kit now but if left to continue in present statemay burn out or weaken the overload.
Of course this is speculation on my part with the info you provided.

Go down the panel and see if all the screws on the wires are tight at the breakers. For the cost try a new breaker also.
