I am in the process of completing the structural buildup of my deck (550sq ft) and have yet to decide what type of fastener to use for Trex.
I can't see spending over a $1000 on a hidden fastener system but really like the neatness of it. I have looked at the ebty type of systems and would rather keep with a more solid method. I am considering either Trap Ease (which should eliminate any mushrooming) or Stainless trim head which I have been told leaves a little dimple that can easily fixed with a small hammer blow and actually is almost invisible.
I would greatly appreciate any input if anyone out there has any ideas or opinions/reviews of these or other fastener systems.

The only fastener I have used with Trex are the TrapEase fasteners. They work as advertised, but we go through quite a few square drive bits per 350 count container. Maybe we got some cheap #2 square drive bits?

I just finished a 600 sft. deck with trex decking. I used tiger claws hidden fasteners. They look great. The decking pieces were cut to 19 ft and working by myself the tiger claws were a little difficult to get the proper spacing. If the pieces were 10 ft long then the tiger claws would be a lot easier to use. they are not cheap but you can't beat the clean look the provide.

XSleeper, did the same thing. Gotta get out of that bargain bin and get back to the Stanley or Bosch bits. After I did, things went better. But like Rapture, I can't pass up a good deal.

I use Trap Ease almost exclusively, and build 2 or 3 decks a month. 'Mushrooming' just doesn't ahppen with them, but the head remains exposed. That's why you choose a color close to the color of the decking.
XSleeper, get away from the cheap bits. My De Walt or Bosch bits last for at least 1,000 screws each. That's about 6 times as many as you were getting with the cheap ones, and they only cost twice as much. I couldn't afford to use the cheap ones!!
