The deck I'm building is 10 ft wide and 30 ft long. It is 8 ft. high (walk under to get to bottom floor of house). The joists are 2x6's on 12 inch centers. Whether required by code or not, would you recommend mid-span blocking between the joists, considering the close 12-inch joist centers? Thanks....

Short answer: Yes.

Mid-span blocking makes the joists work in unison, which makes the structure more solid.

I agree that the blocking is necessary but for a different reason. Mid span blocking will reduce or eliminate any twisting of the joist.

Thanks both for the replies :)

Sounds like 2 good reasons for putting them in, so I'll do it!
