My televisions starting acting up yesterday.
The cable signal started going off and on every few seconds.
I figured it must be the input from the street so I went out to the cable box on the side of the house and opened the customer side of the box.
I unscrewed the input cable from the splitter and cleaned the coax with some fine emery cloth.
Put it back together and the TVs worked fine for a couple of hours, then the same thing started happening.
Went out and cleaned all the connections on the splitter and reassembled.
TVs all working fine now.
Should I consider replacing the splitter. The connections are covered with rubber coverings but the exposed parts look a little corroded.
I am not sure if my cable company would charge me for this,
but I would rather not deal with them if at all possible.
They try to make you feel as though you don't know a thing,
If I can avoid a charge I would do it myself as I have a little experience with electicity and electronics.

If cleaning and reassembling cured the prob (going on and off) then just watch tv....As for calling the cable co. they should not charge to check their signal to the outside of your house, at what they call the demarcation box. Now if they have to check the wireing inside that could be a charge, it all depends whether you have what is called "whole house wireing maintenance agreement" with them. If you have it, then they maintain the wireing all the way to the tv set, at NO charge. I'd call the service rep (good luck with that) and ask them to check on that. usually it will show up on your bill also...if you can decypher the cable co's bill.
