how much work involved to switch out d/r with f/r? On my own in this prodject, need some good info. thanks

It depends. If the drop in is fairly old the cut out is probably less than 30". Most newer drop ins have a cut out of 30" or more. If your cut out is 30" all you'll need to do is remove the base and panel on the front. Some drop ins sit on a 2x4 or whatever base, some simply hang from the counter top. If yours sits on a base remove it-that should give you the 30" opening you need for a free standing. You may have to put in a receptacle if you're going to an electric free standing. Many of the old drop ins were wired direct. New free standing electric ranges require a receptacle. Good luck!
